Held the second weekend of September each year, The Flax Scutching Festival offers demonstrations of the complete process of making Linen from the Flax plant. The festival also has great homemade food, crafts, antique farm equipment, live music, civil war encampment, covered wagon train encampment and a staged Indian raid. The Indian raid is a realistic battle between Indians and Settlers, representing the hazards of the era. This is the 2nd oldest festival of it's type in the world!

"The Return of George Washington" on Sunday, June 13. Meet Dean Malissa, the official portrayer of our Nation's first President at Mount Vernon and enjoy programs by Dr. Kinorea "Two Feather" Tigri, a cultural practitioner of the Cherokee Nation. Journey back to the 18th century and the time of young George Washington at Fort Ligonier - a full-scale, on-site reconstruction and restoration of a British fort built in 1758. The fort, a stronghold during the French & Indian War, features a fascine cannon battery with reproduced British artillery pieces. "The World Ablaze: An Introduction to the Seven Years' War," is a world-class exhibit with over 200 original 18th century objects from around the world reflecting the global aspects of the Seven Years' War. Other highlights in Fort Ligonier's museum include the French & Indian War art gallery, the history gallery and George Washington's pistols and memoirs. Stop in the Museum Store for books, gift items and souvenirs. Open April 15 through November 15, 2010, Monday thru Saturday, 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Sundays Noon - 4:30 PM.

The Annual Laurel Highlands Bluegrass Festival brings bluegrass music to the beautiful Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania. National and regional bluegrass bands are featured each year and there is plenty of room for campers. The annual festival takes place at the Waterford VFD grounds in June.
